Momentous?!

J. L. Austin remarks:

"When the coroner says, "She's dead" is the pronouncement:

(i) a mere illocutionary force without a phatic?
(ii) a rheme?
(iv) a perlocutionary-effect uptake with a pheme?

He chose (ii).

Cheers,

JLS

ps. Geary will find it puzzling that 'pronounced dead' draws many google
hits while in other tenses does not, "will pronounce dead", "pronounces dead".
