Hi,
I hope this is okay to post on Our List.

In addition to some of this practical stuff, I have now learned how to
charge a cell phone with just regular batteries. <g> As one of my favorite
quotes
states: "No great loss without some small gain."

Politics aside, MoveOn.org is organizing an effort for people who want
to offer temporary housing for hurricane victims (and not just in the
South; people are offering homes all over the country for anyone who
wants to relocate). To offer, you can go here:

In addition, Baton Rouge has sent a call out regarding needs of the BR area
shelters are in desperate need of for Katrina refugees. They can't afford to
wait for the Red Cross money to trickle down; people need clean underwear
right now. If you've been wondering what you can do, here's the info I was
sent:

<
new underwear / socks (all sizes)
baby clothes, diapers, all baby items (wipes, etc.)
hygiene items (toothbrushes, toothpaste, personal hygiene items --
combs,
shampoo, soap, etc.)
bottled water
non-perishable food

If you want to drop it off or send it, WAFB Channel 9 news is acting as
a drop-off / distribution point for all of the churches and shelters. Their
address is:
WAFB
844 Government St.
Baton Rouge, LA 70802>>

Anyone else save those little bottles of toiletries from hotels?

Shelters are also looking for books and toys and games and magazines because
people are going to be trapped in these places for months and they have
nothing. She's gathering addresses now but doesn't have them for me yet; I'll
post them when I get them.

For help with the animals (I understand the Texas SPCA is doing an awesome
job assisting people--if they left with pets but have no where to go and are
out of money so need to be in a shelter, they are not allowed to take their
pets with them.)
