The army wants to be liked
though it?s spineless
and vicious
and hard
like a crab
with a thorny case of malice.
It reacts to the weight of stones
and water
by scuttling from stink to stink
sloughing eggs across a benthic bed
dappled by densities
and immigrant residues.
It dreams in its sleep
of being a dragon
of boring holes through desert sands
and having fire to spare
for the peace process.
But no one has ever been loved
for finding so many ways
to bring sunshine
into the human body.
