Adriano,
Ben would thank you for the compliment. He’ll be ten in November. I used to
push my earlier Ridgebacks, giving them lots of exercise on into their old age.
I don’t think now that made them live any longer. Thanks to the California
governor and my wounded knee, Ben will be going more gently into his old age,
with much more backyard than hiking time.

A few of the rose bushes have begun to produce blooms, but the rain has damaged
many of them. The California Poppies are coming up nicely even though I didn’t
put down any new seed. They seem able to do that all by themselves. Also they
withstand the rain better than I thought they would.
The dogs don’t mind just hanging out. The California’s sequestering order
doesn’t bother them a bit, but they are always ready to follow me and my camera
into the back yard.
Inside, they, especially Jessica, are sensitive to anything going on out front
– lots of barking especially if it turns out to be a cat, a dog or a delivery
person putting a package on the front porch.
