And there really is a John McPhee, and his descriptions of attempts to
control the river's course (and dozens of other subjects including Bill
Bradley's basketball style, Long Island farmers markets, California geology
and Florida orange growing) are a read that I would call delightful as well
as literary. The language is truly marvelous.
