Anyone read _The Human Stain_?
Black man pretends to be Jewish in the '50s,
becomes head of classics department at highly
regarded college, ruffles feathers as academic
dean, in his class refers to two missing students
as "spooks" (intending "ghosts") unaware that the
missing students are black, under guidance of
ambitious young professor the students profess
grievance, and professor is ousted from his job,
labeled a bigot .... then the real fun starts.
