You've never heard of "If it bleeds, it leads"?

Why is the _Inferno_ more popular than the _Paradiso_? Why is the criticism of _The Duino Elegies_ so much longer than the elegies themselves? Why is it easier to blame than to praise?

And yes, IMHO, there is also a desire to keep people in adrenaline overdrive, but it's not in particular service to the Bushistas, it's in service to ratings. TV Weather, for example, is full of "granny alerts" -- winter weather advisory: it will be windy and cold today -- giving the impression that people will immediately die if they go outside.
