Did anyone catch Jim Lehrer's PBS program on American idiom? What little I saw seemed to argue that American speech is becoming more, rather than less, varied. The example which started this thread is to my ear age specific rather than geography specific, a verbal tic embraced by some people now aged between twenty and thirty. One of my newest colleagues talks like this.
