Perhaps you do. I know I do. Most things "male" bore me. I have little
identity with malehoodom at least as it's represented to us in the South. And
I'm pretty sure we're not unique. Neither do I identify as a female. Though I
would rather gather with the girls at a get together than with the boys who
talk sports and fishing and other such guy things, because the women usually
talk of things more touching on emotional life, things that a frightening
number of men don't even know exits. Women can be just as jejune as men and
often are, but when women get down to the nitty, which men seldom to, it's
usually much more gritty than men have ever dreamed of being. At the same
time, I recognize that women have an agenda as uniquely theirs as do men. I
find that I identify with neither. I am of the third sex. It has always
astonished me that most women seem to like men. How could that be?

    WOMEN (AS THE SAYING GOES)

    I like women.
    Women are interesting.
    They really are.
Even though most of them could take or leave sports.
Still women are -- who they are.

    Men, however, they're the guys!
Oh, give me some men who are stout-hearted men,
who will fight for the rights they adore.
    Men are not women.
Men are more like manly types,
    Most of them anyway.
Men are tough and they like to fight.
And men are not averse to killing if necessary.
I mean like if God needs a killing done (or a President, or a charismatic
leader or whoever) then call on a man.
    Men know what matters.

    What do women know.
    I don't know.
    I'm not a woman.
    Still, I like women.
    Women are interesting.
They seem to be engineered for my wanting them.
They seem to be everything I've ever wanted and am willing to sacrifice
everything for.
    For a while.
    Then it's back to business.
Which is what men are for.
    God is in his heaven
and all is right with the world.
