I don't know if these British findings would apply to dogs living here in
San Jacinto, but in case they do . . . for example, not taking dogs on their
normal outings is one cause of doggy-depression. And I was in the habit of
taking my three on regular outing until they knocked me down and broke my
knee-cap. So how about that? Britain has a lot of old houses with rickety
stair-cases - or so I've read in Agatha Christy, etc; so, I would ask, how
many of those nearly 1,000,000 UK dogs knocked their owners off the stairs
and broke their knee-caps. Maybe it isn't depression they're feeling but
guilt.
How many dogs live in the UK? An official looking document says there are
9,900,000. The article goes black so I can't read it all unless I subscribe
to it and probably pay a fee; so let's just say that about 10% of the dogs
living in the UK have mental problems.
But I question the research done on this article. Notice the example of a
depressed dog: very old. Very old dogs sleep a lot and seem depressed -
people too. Then notice a technician with a "healthy dog": She is playing
patty cake with a puppy. Puppies are happy a lot - human toddlers too.
Interestingly, 25% of all people living in the UK have mental problems. The
population of the UK in 2019 was 67, 615, 739; which means about 27,046,295
people living in the UK have mental problems.

So I have to ask, how many of the out-of-kilter 27,046,295 are worried about
the nearly 1,000,000 dogs with mental health issues? Do the 27,046,295 have
similar mental disorders to those of their (some percentage of )1,000,000
dogs? And do any in the UK not numbered in the 27,046,295 worry about the
mental health of their dogs?
In other statistics, while 25% of British families own dogs, only 0.4% own
domestic fowls.
