Robert: You quote 'There will be a final judgment in which the wicked dead will be raised and judged according to their works. Whosoever is not found written in the Book of Life, together with the devil and his angels, the beast and the false prophet, will be consigned to the everlasting punishment in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.' What you quote is in the Bible. The difference between Dispensationalists (including Pentecostals and Charismatics) is that they interpret passages such as this literally in all respects, i.e., a literal book and a literal lake of fire; whereas the traditional church has seen more symbolism. But all "orthodox" Christians believe in a final judgment. [Wright, Cone and Obama probably don't. I've seen no sign that their sect is orthodox] Lawrence -----Original Message----- From: lit-ideas-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:lit-ideas-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Robert Paul Sent: Sunday, September 14, 2008 7:40 PM To: lit-ideas@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [lit-ideas] Re: More on Obama's church Lawrence wrote > I've no idea what you're talking about, Julie. I was afraid for a minute there that it had lost its good standing by allowing evolutionary biologists who don't believe in the Flintstone Doctrine, i.e., that dinosaurs and humans roamed the earth together, to become members. It's just a benign little group of Christians, doing their best to promote understanding and tolerance, as one of their beliefs well illustrates. 'There will be a final judgment in which the wicked dead will be raised and judged according to their works. Whosoever is not found written in the Book of Life, together with the devil and his angels, the beast and the false prophet, will be consigned to the everlasting punishment in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.' http://www.ag.org/top/Beliefs/Statement_of_Fundamental_Truths/sft_full.cfm#1 3 Comforting stuff.
