[The astute reader will note, that after editorial perusal of this message I
have, following consultation of various motion picture rating systems, flagged
it ‘orange: PG13’.]

… What I can’t understand is how Modern Farmer’s wellies are reduced from
$160 to $99. A hundred bucks for wellies?

Coincidentally, I just last week happened to read a bit of relevant literature
from the pile of periodicals in our apartment’s ‘reading room’ (or, as some
term it here, ‘water closet’).
I quote from Dr Michael Bohndorf in Spain, who, after receiving a prize of
boots similar to 'Modern Farmer’s wellies' from a gardening magazine for
‘Letter of the Month,’ writes in a thank-you note, published on the turn of
the Millennium (GARDENS ILLUSTRATED, Issue No. 58, December/January 2000/2001,
page 29):
“When I received the prize of a pair of ‘Sovereign Hunter’ boots for writing
the winning letter in issue 45, I thought they were a nice pair of gardening
boots. I recently saw a photograph of a model wearing ‘Wellingtons’ with hot
pants and a see-through top from Italian designer Alberta Feretti in the
magazine DER SPIEGEL. My prize, I realized, was no ordinary pair of gardening
boots, but high fashion footwear. …”
It would seem that Limited Edition Modern Farmer Muck Boots fall into a similar
fashion category — which makes the price quite a bargain. I think the bright
orange colour of the boots sets off the sky-blue tone of the ‘Donkey T-shirt’
(also reduced — a steal at $18.00) rather nicely ...

P.S. Yes, I realize Dr Bohndorf’s name translates roughly as ‘Beantown’ — but I
assure list members that I’m not making any of this up!
P.P.S. Under the Rubric ‘magazines’ on the MODERN FARMER website to which David
has referred us, one can determine that the first issue (Spring, 2013) features
a rooster on the cover; and includes the informative article “Which Chicken Is
Right For You?”, as well as the shocking "Love Chickens But Hate Commitment?
Try Renting”. ‘Love’ for ‘rent’ without ‘commitment’ — are Cheddar, Mimo,
Pecorino et al. aware that some of their sisters are being exploited by some
humans in a bestial version of what I can only refer to euphemistically as ‘the
world’s oldest profession’?

David, I hope that you are not leaving your copies of MODERN FARMER lying
around where they may be inadvertently scrutinized by creatures of delicate
moral sensibility.
