How about rewriting Ulysses from the point of view of the ghost of Odysseus?

"Hey that reminds me of something.." Odysseus brooded.


Then there's Joseph Heller's _Picture This_, where Aristotle, trapped in Rembrandt's "Aristotle Contemplating a Bust of Homer" at the Met, is narrator.
