I wonder if Geary agrees. 
 
Socrates used to use the term 'maieutika' a lot, which means 'midwifery' as  
per the 'opening'. And here we have Bloom 'deeming' (?) the American mind as  
'closing'. Interesting metaphor.
 
Perhaps Geary can elaborate on Socrates' motivation in his 'metaphorical'?  
use of the Greek term?
