Except that you're an American, and Americans have been sold a bill of goods since this thing began almost 60 years ago that one side is evil and one side is saintly. There's no way any American has a balanced view of what's going on. ----- Original Message ----- From: To: lit-ideas@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: 8/7/2006 6:44:11 PM Subject: [lit-ideas] Re: "Leftist" vs. "Counterculturalist" I'm uncomfortable with all this energy wasted on labels. I vote democratic. I think Bush has in 6 years wrought enormous world-wide damage. I support Israel's right to exist. I have sympathy for the Palestinians -- no Arab country will let them in. I have a difficult time not disagreeing with Israel's tactics, but I assume there are military strategies in place that I am unaware of. I am well aware of the strategy of Hezbollah not caring a whit about their own lives or civilians and hiding weaponry in civilian areas. The whole thing is a mess and I don't think anyone can be labeled in such a complicated and complex situation. There simply are no black hats and white hats. Your > Not all leftists are counterculturalists and vice versa. > Instead what defines counterculturalism is alienation. doesn't seem much of an advance to me, frankly, though it may be an advance of your >Let me suggest "counterculturalist" instead of "leftist." to which I responded, and which does not seem to me to meet Carol's point.
