What's the difference between the thousands of Japanese Kamikaze pilots of WWII
and today's Islamist suicide bombers? The Kamikazes (the "Divine Wind") were
awarded the Shinto equivalent of keys to heaven. The mind bending brutality of
Nan King. What about hari kari? What kind of societal mindset requires one to
eviscerate one's self for purposes of honor? And for all of that, Japan is
considered civilized. Eric, any ideas?
