Robert retorts: I feel your pain.

Pain? Do you know what it's like to ransack dumpsters in order to salvage a _World Book Encyclopedia 1962 Yearbook_ to continue research of an epic poem about the life of Hank Aaron?

Pain? Do you know what it's like to stand on 12th Street in a bitter winter wind, your frostbitten fingers copying relevant text from Strand Bookstore bargain-cart books onto discarded menus?

Do you know that pain? Do you? Do you really? I don't. Just asking.

Seriously, though ... why isn't JSTOR free for all searchers? Without a subscription to JSTOR, one must routinely start a Google Scholar search on page 19 of the results. You'd think all the colleges and universities could underwrite more democratic access to knowledge. Jefferson's natural aristocracy and all that. Or maybe it would just open up a gigantic new can of plagiarism methods...

Best to all,
Eric
