Oh, you were in the bait fishing areas. We usually were in fly fishing areas. (Sometimes we'd take the three- or four-mile trek out to the bait area.) We never had a boat, but we all had hip waders. When we went to bait fishing areas, I had to carry the box full of worms in bus bedding. 

Never had much hardscrabble as a child, only when I was on my own.
