No, I don't think he uses the term farmer. And if the term seems vague it
means leaving a life of hunter-gatherer and settling down to a life of
farming and herding. That shouldn't seem vague. It is a different way of
[life]. There is no doubt that this happened beginning about 15,000 years
ago.
The alternative to the natural selection answer is that they just happened
to decide to farm instead of hunt. That's the opinion I held for many
years although it didn't sit well. Why such a long period of not doing it
and then suddenly deciding to do it. Something changed.
*(I really can't be too surprised to find out that a life of farming and
herding involves farming.)
*Does Ward have disciples? I asked.
I doubt it. He is a science reporter. He is merely reporting what is
currently known and then speculating about what it signifies.
*What what signifies? On this account, Ward can understand anything that
comes before his eyes, and make critical judgments of it. As far as I can
tell, he hasn't come up with any explanations of his own. Of course,
someday he may, but so far, he seems only to provide objections to what the
blind 'others' have done.
