At the end of an otherwise impeccable post, David rashly concludes:
Perhaps my response should have been off-list.>
No. No. And no. We need much more Arsenal on the list.* It's a list that has
too long suffered from the dead hands of Wittgenstein, Popper and Grice and a
cast of others none of whom ever played for Arsenal, won a league and cup
double or went a whole season without defeat. Arsenal may save this list when
speculations about implicature, unsayability, falsfiability, as well as
everything else from the US Civil War to girlish attitudes, could not.

*Also it is yet another thing where Mike Geary does not know what anyone is
talking about: if Mike does not know what you are talking about, it is almost
certain your talk belongs on the list.

Subject: [lit-ideas] Re: Hereabouts
To be plain: in two games this week Arsenal won with style. On Sunday, at the
end of a dull game, they bundled the ball into the goal in the second minute of
injury time. The ref chose to ignore or see as accidental the fact that on the
way in the ball glanced off a player’s arm. I have been a loyal supporter of
Arsenal since about 1970. It feels luxurious finally to have some luck; there
hasn’t been a lot of that around.
Perhaps my response should have been off-list.

And lucky. Very lucky. Great result.

Indeed, indeed, indeed.
In my dictionary of quotations “luck” falls between “loyalty” and “luxury.”
No argument from me.
