Do they let bobbies carry automatic weapons now???? In all the British
mystery series I've watched in the past, the detectives used clever
arguments rather than guns and force to disable criminals.
Also, your comment that it is hot in London deserves a bit of argument from
Southern California. I read that the London high yesterday was 79 degrees.
The low here in San Jacinto last night was 76 degrees. The high yesterday
was 111 degrees and the day before 115, and etc. Maybe we'll be lucky today
and the temp will drop to 105. I don't think it will go below 100.
It's been too hot to go hiking so Jessica my Irish Terrier has taken to
doing laps starting in my study (where like your north, it's cooler),
jumping up in a lounge chair, running around Ben and then down the hall and
back again. Somehow the lounge chair doesn't tip over when she leaps up
into it and bounces out to run another lap.

Left in sole charge of chickens and Hamish, to amuse a visitor the other god
bundled all except the chickens into a vehicle and drove out into the
country. They object was to taste wine. Hamish was very interested in a
pair, full-bodied, with an interesting nose. I wish I could show you a
photo of him on one side of a fence and the two cows on the other.
We are done with our conference. B and I held the room, finished exactly on
time, looked forward to a lively question and answer session. The other two
speakers had another program in mind. By the time the last one finished
there were only a handful of people left in the audience. Not to worry
though...as the moderator said, there was still time for one or two
questions. The first person to put her hand up was one of the plenary
speakers. Her "question" took at least five minutes to deliver. We got
twenty seconds each.
A weird minority, neither of B nor I carried a cell phone. To find the
conference we resorted to that ancient British behavior, asking a policeman.
I'm always listening for changes in English, so I was delighted when the
bloke took one hand off his automatic weapon and instructed us, "Straight
on, then chuck a left."
A water main broke in the area where we were staying. I learned two things:
British houses have water storage in the attic or "loft"; British workers
are now able to restore service on a Friday evening. There was a time when
this was not the case.
We all move forward. I'm moving north.
