After Arsenal’s win in F.A. Cup…if that went by you too quickly I’m happy to
repeat it… Arsenal, the underdogs, beat Chelsea in the F.A. Cup Final and won a
great big silver trophy…after that minor incident, we hung out… not banners but
washing.  The girls arrived to offer criticism and advice, “Watch your color
balance.”
“Definitely too much red on that end.”
“Have you got anything yellow?”
To interrupt this, I introduced K., my brother-in-law.
“Big big, isn’t he?”  Mimo was at her most straightforward.
K. said, “Six, five.”
Appenzeller, “That’s quite tall, that is.  Six five.”
Mimo felt like showing off, “Six, five, four, three, two, one.”
Pecorino, “Blocks out the sun.”
For fun I asked the chickens whether they were having any neck issues.
Mimo, “Anyone would…looking up at him.”
I explained that K. is a chiropractor and that he adjusts people.
K.  “Where have you been feeling it and for how long?”
Mimo, “What’s he on about?”
I said, “He could adjust your neck.”

B., my sister-in-law, brought the washing in.  K. and I were doing manly
House-Fixing stuff.  The chickens wanted to know what all the noise was about.
“Enlightenment,” were her offering.
“Whaaaaaaaaat?”
“They’re replacing lights.  I don’t know why it’s noisy.”
“Nice weather we’re having,” said Mimo.
“Oh yes,” said Pecorino, “so much better than the rain.”
“La pluie éternelle m’énerve,” was Appenzeller’s offering.  At least that’s
what B. says and she does speak French.

Those seeking entertainment who cannot quite afford a trip to the Americas Cup
and are somewhat tired of watching Hamish chase around the garden in hope of
some sort of exchange with squirrels, such people might try the following
solution: take the remains of a corn cob…break it in two…lay it in two places,
about a yard apart…where three chickens can see it.
“That’s mine, that is.”
“I’ve got dibs on this one.”
“I claim them both.”
“You can’t; they’re too far apart.”
“I’ve found a good bit.”
The running back and forth is close to hilarious.  Corny, I know, but fun.

My favorite brewery has had quality control problems.  Have they invested money
to solve the problems?  Nope.  They hired a design firm to re-do all the
labels.

I stepped outside to enjoy the evening light.  Up they came, rushing.
“Feed us.”
“Entertain us.”
“Keep us company.”
I have no idea why I decided to try a joke.  “Man walks into a bar…”
Mimo, “Why?”
“Why what?”
Pecorino, “Why didn’t he avoid it?”
Appenzeller, “Bit careless walking into something.”
Mimo, “By ‘man,’ you mean a god, I suppose?”
We sorted all that out and moved onto the second line.  “He had a steering
wheel stuck in his trousers.”
“What’s a steering wheel?”
“Trousers?”
“By ‘stuck’ do you mean that he couldn’t ever remove it?”
I made a mental note to avoid the subject of jokes.  I tried deflection but
they insisted they wanted to know the whole tale.
“How does the story finish?”  Mimo.
“Quickly?” I suggested.
Appenzeller, “Does that mean it’s a racing wheel?”
“No,” I said… “The bartender asks why.”
“Why what?”
“He asked why the man had a steering wheel in his trousers.
“And?”
“The man says, ‘I don’t know…but it’s driving me nuts.”
They thought for a moment and came to a general conclusion, “We don’t see the
point.”
“No,” I said.  “Neither do I.”
