Some text editors --like Vim or emacs -- use line numbering, not for poetry but for code. What kind of word processing/text editing software do you use, perhaps an editor installed in Firefox? Perhaps there's something in that line of inquiry?
BTW, enjoying the _Dictionary of Theories_ by Jennifer Bothamley (Visible Ink Press, 2002). No I can understand things like Abegg's Rule and Neptunism without having Robert correct me. Five thousand theories ... ah!
