Johannes Fritsche? Sounds like an interesting fellow. I tried to find out more about him and discovered he wrote the book you recommend and received something called ?Habilitation in Philosophy, Technische Universität Berlin, Berlin (Germany)? both in 1999. That must have been a busy year for him. But now he is teaching in Turkey: http://www.usakpedia.com/content/Johannes_Fritsche . That strikes me as a rather strange career move. But I know there are strong ties between Germany and Turkey; so perhaps not. I checked the seemingly elaborate bibliography in Emmanuel Faye?s Heidegger, The Introduction of Nazism into Philosophy, 2009, and Fritsche wasn?t listed, but then an author I have become fond of, Julian Young, wasn?t listed either. Of course Faye wouldn?t want to list every book on Heidegger, but one would think that a book with the title Historical Destiny and National Socialism in Heidegger?s Being and Time would have a prime place, for if the title is indicative of Fritsche?s project, Fritsche promises to address the very issue Faye strikes me as being weakest in. Also, Julian Young?s book Heidegger, Philosophy, Nazism addresses issues very much to this point. Another book I am fond of, Luc Ferry and Alain Renaut?s Heidegger and Modernity is in Faye?s bibliography. Ferry and Renaut are critical of Heidegger, but then so is Young, but neither are quite as critical as Faye is and Young is very much his own man about what to criticize. I can read Faye for only a few moments at a time; so I have been supplementing him with Jacques Derrida?s Of Spirit, Heidegger and the Question (in Faye?s bibliography under ?other works.?) I did order Fritsche?s book. Lawrence -----Original Message----- From: cblists@xxxxxxxx Sent: Saturday, November 21, 2009 4:39 AM To: lit-ideas@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [lit-ideas] Re: Heidegger. Left or Right Wing? Unfortunately I have been busy practising the means of transcendence beyond Dasein-with and Dasein-in to Dasein-for ('Sorge') by caring for a sick member of the household (who is finally on the road to recovery, thank goodness) and have not been able to give my full attention to the discussion of Heidegger and National Socialism (to which I once devoted the larger part of 2 years of research). In anticipation of a little more time in the coming week, I will offer as something to chew on the following sentences: >>'Heidegger', then, will take the place here of a certain discursive regularity. It will not be the proper name, which refers to a man from Meßkirch, deceased in 1976.<< PLEASE NOTE that both I and Johannes Fritsche (from whose book _Historical Destiny And National Socialism in Heidegger's BEING AND TIME_ I took those sentences) are REPORTING, and NOT endorsing, them. Chris Bruce, momentarily doffing his nurse's cap, in Kiel, Germany P.S. large parts of Fritsche's book are available in a 'limited preview' on Google books. Interested list members may wish to look it up for themselves. It is not an easy read, but it certainly is an interesting one. -cb -- ------------------------------------------------------------------ To change your Lit-Ideas settings (subscribe/unsub, vacation on/off, digest on/off), visit www.andreas.com/faq-lit-ideas.html No virus found in this incoming message.
