Deleting stuff and saw this. In reading it from a distance, the first
sentence is not at all the sense that I intended. I meant simply, you've
made your point. Apologies to Erin if this was misinterpreted.

Some rock is about white power and other crap, but most isn't. How has hip
hop helped the inner city? In the absence of specifics as to hip hop's
social largesse, I stand by my ignorant generalization about rap music.

is usually a "better alternative", is also completely outrageous. Suppose
we discount the fact that a lot of hip hop brings with it social awareness
and has historically dealt with and continues to deal with relevant social
and political issues (perhaps you should take a look at Brewster's and
Broughton's discussions on the history of hip hop). And suppose, that in
discounting these, what I would call, "redeeming qualities" we go ahead and
sweepingly label all hip hop as "violent and obscene". This would not make
rock a better alternative. You should go ahead and download KORN's song
"K@#0%" of the album Life is Peachy and then get back to us.
