[lit-ideas] English Comp & Rhetoric?

I teach privately, and am out of touch with undergrad course work. What
kinds of standards are involved in a freshman Comp & Rhetoric course? What
is expected to be covered in the course, overall, and how much of it
revolves around grammar, correctly constructed sentences, etc.? Is much of
that covered in the class, or is it assumed that students come with
adequate literacy skills?
