Thanks Judy, The 3 or 4 photos ending with photo 141 make it look as though Duffy and Ginger are fighting ferociously, then with barely a pause photos 142, 143 & 144 show them happily dancing up the trail – the best of buddies. As to Duffy not being small, I sort of know what you mean – at least in theory. That is, I have read quite a lot about English terriers and a number of them, used for years as working terriers, are about Duffy’s size. However even the smallish coyotes we have around here, 25 to 35 pounds (although I saw one that was much larger a few months ago), are much larger than Duffy. I am leaning (off and on) toward getting something smaller than a Rhodesian Ridgeback next time and have been meaning to ask you about the Airedale. My son has had several Airedales and loves them. I wouldn’t look forward to dealing with the fur, but having dealt with Duffy’s make’s that prospect a little less forbidding. I’m sure the typical coyote would run from an Airedale just as he does from my girls. So that wouldn’t be a problem. I’d be more concerned about keeping the coat clear of burs and other debris. I’ve gotten Duffy used to following me into the backyard after we come home from a hike so I can brush and comb him. I suppose I could do that just as well with something three times his size. Duffy's not that small, at all, just considerably smaller than the other two. Good photos, and good to see a sunny riverside day. By the time I swung my camera around it was already some distance away. Photo 151 is another photo of it running. Photo 152 shows Duffy in hot pursuit. Photo 153 shows the rabbit stretched out. It might be a little hard to see the rabbit in this one so it is best to use the X3 enlargement. Photo 154 shows Duffy and the rabbit in the same photo – proof that Duffy is keeping up with the rabbit. I took some more photos but by that time they had moved too far away to see anything clearly so I didn’t post them. Chasing rabbits is something the girls do regularly; Duffy has done it on his own just a few times. In the research that led up to Susan’s buying Duffy she started out wanting a dog she could carry about in her purse. I argued for something a little more self-sufficient, something that could handle itself at the river. As it happened when she saw a photo of Duffy she fell I love with him. All debate ended at that point. She hoped he would be less than 15 pounds. I hoped he would be more than 20. The last time he was weighed he was 19.7 pounds – bigger than a rabbit and just as fast. I haven’t seen any coyotes I this area for several weeks so they’ve either moved out or are keeping a low profile when we are nearby. Several of these coyotes have been chased by the girls; so if they don’t have a need to protect their pups they are probably happy to hide out – and Duffy’s presence hasn’t changed that in any way.
