I tried the same two books by DeLillo and came to the same conclusion about it as Paul did.

I've tried DeLillo twice (White Noise and Underworld) and I just don't get the attraction. The blurbs on the books are intriguing... the books are not. I think his kind of writing is the number one reason that an American author hasn't won the NobelPPforLit since '93 and that was just a token vote.
