What a great point Chris. I feel better. Really. Now if we could get everyone to get rid of nukes......

On 11-Sep-11, at 12:08 AM, Phil Enns wrote [about the prospects for a peaceful resolution to the conflict in the Middle East]:

...
There are strong incentives for virtually all the actors in the region to make sure that the conflict does not end.
 ...
Unless the dynamics in the region radically change, I don't see much hope of a resolution. There are just too many strong incentives to keep the conflict going and not enough to bring about peace.

Sadly, I must agree with what you have written here ... and yet ....

I know of no-one who foresaw the opening of the iron curtain, the collapse of the Berlin wall and the reunification of Germany until those events were upon us. It seems that even the most optimistic of Germans thought that all lay centuries in the future.

Indeed, I remember reading one publication by a think-tank that specialized in prognostication. Their forecast for the future of Germany: the country would stagnate until (West) Germans gave up their hopeless longing for a reunification that would NEVER come about and got down to business with a more realistic attitude.

That book was published in the summer of 1989 ....
