Back in 80's, Mrs. Nyborg the wife of then US
Ambassador to Finland and an Idaho resident gave a
talk at a school I was at. Idaho was one of the main
destinations of Finnish immigrants to USA. (Find a 
cold, remote, scarcely populated, obscure patch of
land good for growing potatos and you'll find Finns
too...) She insisted that the story behind the state
name is that one of the settlers was this strong
minded woman called Ida Aho... (Or maybe Iida, both
spellings are correct.) And I have a potato pin to
prove it.
