Anjem Choudary would be a real problem if he was in anyway representitive of British Muslims. He is not, however. Interesting then that you should (seriously?) condone a solution that he might well put forward himself.

Here's an indirect link (click on the video link) to a debate of the BBC Newsnight programme broadcast in February last year following the Danish Cartoon episode.

You'll see that Choudary behaves very much like someone under attack from all sides. Perhaps because he is.

Just in case Lawrence is reading, here's a few statements from someone (me) who considers himself well to the left of the political centre.

1. I do not support in anyway someone like Choudary. (By definition, given his religious belief).

2. I do not support in anyway the foreign policy decisions of Bush (By defintion, given his political motives).

3. Choudary and Bush are enemies.

4. It is just as likely that given statement one, I would consider Bush an ally (which I don't), and likewise that given statement two, I would consider Choudary an ally (which I don't).

Which just goes to show that the use of logic to try and categorise a political posotion gets you nowhere.
