Lawrence: We are a conflicted people - all of us are. We engage in conflicts throughout life. The nations that represent us also engage in conflicts. Conflicts make a better story, that's for sure. So maybe there's a narratological base for our conflicts? If consciousness is a narrative, maybe we need conflict to make sense of our lives? Similarly with nations: lacking conflict, they would vanish and nobody would notice their absence. Eric PS: What's bad for the hero of the story is good for the plot. That may be the original fatal apple in concentrate form. ------------------------------------------------------------------ To change your Lit-Ideas settings (subscribe/unsub, vacation on/off, digest on/off), visit www.andreas.com/faq-lit-ideas.html
