if the President were instead to nominate for the Supreme Court a
lawyer named Katrina? It would at least ensure the Court had a
female presence or a transsexual and would send a powerful message
of inclusivity and even redemption.

Ha! In response to al-Qaeda's glee at Katrina, I thought we should
name the next low-level hurricane "Osama" (or Allah) and saturate
the Middle East with coverage like:
Hurricane Osama, initially sporting winds of 75 to 100 mph, glanced
off the Florida coast yesterday and lamely headed out to sea. This
minor ruffle doesn't have the force of earlier hurricanes, and after
dithering around offshore, Osama lost power, and was downgraded to a
mild tropical depression.
