Coverage of the assasination from Dawn, a Pakistani newspaper: http://www.dawn.com/2007/12/27/benazirbhutto.htm and Jang http://www.jang.com.pk/

Pakistan's elections were planned for January 8th (and likely to be cancelled or postponed).

The assassination is a blow for Bush. Bush's plan was to transition to Bhutto. Bush convinced Bhutto to return to Pakistan and convinced Musharraf to allow Bhutto to return. But that strategy has been destroyed.

However, Bhutto was hardly an ideal person to lead a democracy. Although she was the first woman to lead an modern Islamic country, she was also deeply corrupt. She looted more than a billion dollars during her time in office. There was no difference between her and other Arab heads of state: corruption, abuse of power, and so on.

Who killed her? Who indeed? There is a long list. Mush himself. The Pakistani military. Al Qaeda. India, to prevent stability in Pakistan. Other Arab states, to keep the US tied down. Other Pakistani political parties, to prevent a US takeover. Pakistan is an impenetrable turmoil of factions and battles and corruption, fueled by billions of dollars from secret agencies from a number of countries that do not want to see stability in Pakistan.
