Have you seen this piece in the NYTimes?
What's most depressing is that Democrats think that Bush is using terrorism and
his ability to alarm us with his warnings to his political advantage, and
Republicans and Independents seem willing to take a leap of faith and trust
that he's not doing anything so disgusti9ng as to fabricate warnings to remind
us how much we need him.

One person said in effect we don't know enough to judge this: we need to assume
he's got our best interest at heart. There's the problem. Because we really do
know enough -- given his willingness to lie to us about everything else: war,
the economy, his tax cuts, where the deficit comes from, the environment,
education, healthcare. It's not much of a leap to think he's lying to us about
terrorism too. AFter three-and-a-half years of his machinations, recognizing
his signature doesn't really take a lot of thought, does it?

Why does the public response to the timing of this warning break down into
parties? Why isn't it visible to Republicans as well? I'm puzzled. Take a look
at the article link.
