Oddly, the Greek Lexicon (Liddell/Scott) does not provide the etymology for 'aletheia'. The OED only recognises 'alethic', a rather ugly neologism (well, ...) that Grice uses extensively in "Aspects of Reason". It was coined by Finnish philosopher Georg Von Wright. I would have thought that 'aletheia' has been used frequently enough in English literature to merit an entry in the OED, even.
