[lit-ideas] A Conditional Apology (Biscuits in the Cupboard)

I wrote to R. Paul.

Well, first he wrote,

>>wearily,

I wrote,

-- taking that to mean, "I am weary" --

"If that's because of me, I apologise".

Cfr. his

"I should apologise to JL (apology, er, implicature to follow).

But implicatures _are_ detachable.

Ditto 'conditional' apologies:

"If you are hungry, there are biscuits in the cupboard"

(???)

"If you feel offended, I apologise".

Logical form left to D. McEvoy -- he is trying to let us believe that he
does not understand.

Cheers,

J. L. Speranza
