Geneticist/Molecular Biologist/Physiologist (Animals)

The USDA, Agricultural Research Service, National Center for Cool and
Cold Water Aquaculture (Leetown, WV), is seeking a permanent full-time
Research Geneticist (Animals) /Molecular Biologist /Physiologist
(Animals). The salary for this position is $87,198 to $134,798 per year
plus benefits. U.S. Citizenship is required. The mission of this unit is
to support and enhance the nation’s cool and cold-water aquaculture
production through research and technology transfer. The incumbent will
lead independent and collaborative research to develop and integrate
technologies in functional genomics, such as genome modification
strategies, gene expression profiling, and epigenomics, genomics, or
interactome analyses, to improve understanding of genetic regulation of
economically-important traits in rainbow trout. The objectives are to: 1)
integrate functional genomics with in vitro cell culture models and/or in
vivo rainbow trout systems to characterize the relationship between DNA
sequence variation and economically important phenotypes; 2) validate
candidate loci responsible for quantitative and qualitative traits; and
3) describe the function of genes and proteins as regulators of
physiological or immunological traits. Ultimately the incumbent will
engage in collaborative research to develop rainbow trout germplasm with
improved production traits. A simultaneous outcome will be improved
understanding of relationships between genes, protein function, and
economically-relevant phenotypes in rainbow trout. The incumbent is also
responsible for planning research activities, reporting to customers and
scientific peers, and supporting technology transfer of products
developed during research. Analysis, interpretation, and dissemination of
findings will be done in the form of reports, presentations and
publications in scientific journals.

This announcement ARS-D22NEA-11332900-AL, is open from 12/27/2021 to
01/28/2022.
