For a long time now, I've said that one thing holding Linux back was its printing capabilities. Well, I hadn't tried CUPS (http://www.cups.org) before. After a 30-second, fool-proof install, you point your browser to localhost:631, add a printer (only HP's and Epson's are covered by the free/Free version) and send a print job, and boom, it works. I was blown away by it. The whole management thing is actually more complete than the print manager stuff you get with Windows, with the exception of the cool 2-way communication stuff that tells you how much ink you have left and whatnot. If you're frustrated by getting printing to work under linux, give CUPS a try. Very cool stuff...
