LWN stands for Linux Weekly News (http://www.lwn.net), an excellent
news site about Linux that has been operating for more than 4 years,
providing each Thursday an in-depth review of the significative events
in the Linux world.

In April 2000 it was aquired by Tucows, which funded them until
recently. LWN staff then became full-time professional writers.

But then, some months ago, Tucows left, and LWN authors basically
found themselves unemployed. They made an attempt to get enough
revenues from ads, donations (and perhaps subscriptions?), but it
seems this didn't work, so now they are closing down.

It's a pity, because LWN articles are of high quality, the sort of
quality one can obtain only by employing full-time people dedicated to
the job [1].

[1] Well, only if time is a concern, of course.
