I have a separate hard drive on which Linux is installed. When I turn on the computer I eventually get a lilo prompt in which I'm given the choice to type in "dos" or the default, in which case linux boots up. If I type "dos", my other hard drive with windows boots up. Here this: Suppose I go out an purchase another hard drive and install an upgraded version of linux, nothing on it at this point but the necessary essentials. I'd want to set it up so that after turning the computer on I get a lilo prompt where I get to type in "dos" or the default linux boot up. So now I have 2 versions of linux, the new one and the old one. The old one has all of the files, user names, directories, everything that I'd like to transfer over to the new linux. How does this sound? I mean, would all I have to do is change drives in order to boot up one linux over the other? Oh, the hard drive sits in a bay drive insert or what some call a "mobile dock".
