Let me guess - you just installed Redhat 7.3, right?

Here's another reason Redhat sucks ass: They're three revisions into the 
7.x series, so you'd think they'd have a polished distribution, right?  
Nah, not really: they install a 2.4.18 kernel, but install the headers for 
2.4.9!  Why would they do that?

I ran into this exact issue installing vmware on one of our web developer's 
machines, and couldn't figure it out.  (I tore the source cd's apart 
looking for the replacement source rpms.)  I finally took redhat off and 
installed Slackware.
