Hi Stefano

Are you sure this is the order that Jean wants the presenters to be in? She was
really clear to me that for the discipline seminar Ray Kelly’s name needed to
be first. Please check with her immediately about this, and make a revised
posting asap if she wants it.

Cheers
Bill

Hi all!

Next meeting: Wednesday 20th August, 5pm-6pm, Room 3B Auchmuty library

Talk: "Phonological reconstruction/rediscovery in NSW languages”
Speakers: Jean Harkins and Raymond Kelly
Abstract: For NSW Aboriginal languages that are no longer spoken in their full
traditional form, evidence from several sources can be pieced together to
rediscover meanings that can make sense to contemporary inheritors of these
languages. We will discuss some specific examples where regular phonological
processes in audio files of Dhanggati connected speech and songs help us to
retrieve the probable original forms. This may lead to discussion of how
endangered language documentation work can feed into future generations'
understanding of their language heritage.

Event: thanks to Jean Harkins for informing on this event

Immersion, Thursday, 21 August 2014, 4pm-8pm

"The Wollotuka Institute and the School of Creative Arts at the University of
Newcastle are proud to announce their forthcoming collaborative performance
event: Immersion.
Come and immerse yourself in this special site-specific event as we sing,
dance, drum, yarn, eat, tell stories and warm ourselves by the fire. You are
welcome to join in or share your own story, dance or performance. Or you may
prefer to watch or simply enjoy some good tucker and friendly people to yarn
with by the fire.
It's about the power of performance to bring us together and celebrate just
being; being who we are."
