Hello,

My name is Lion Kuntz,
Currently located in Santa Rosa, California, USA

I have published a website to coincide with this global ecocity conference.

Think of it as my "poster".

The magnitude of the current eco-crisis has been concealed from the general
public: 38 million people in immanent prospect of starving to death in the next
90 days in Africa; 9 million more in Asia,; and, another 9 million in Central
America; food surpluses turning into food shortages almost everywhere; very few
reserves available for moving around.

The abrupt and astonishing ecological breakdown over most of the continent of
Australia: with fire damage covering vast areas the size of some contries;
holocausts marching through the capital city of the country; fire & drought on
the polar side surrounding the largest city, Sydney; while simultaneously the
equatorial side receives snow and their coldest summer temperature ever
recorded.

Droughts on five continents, some becoming semi-permanent. 30,000 species
extinguished per year. The increasing intensity and frequency of catastrophic
storms. All of these things are well known to intelligent people. The problem
has been, to keep the public from excitability the information is confused or
suppressed by mass media in all lands, and under all socio-economic regimes.
The illusion being created is that there are problems coming, when, in fact,
they are already here.

I have produced a PROPOSAL suggesting comprehensive integrated solutions, and
published it on a website to bypass obstructionism. Powerful economic and
political interests oppose alterations of the status quo -- they prefer to
"fiddle while Rome burns" (to use an analogy of Nero). There are many points of
filtering or censorship between my computer and yours.

To defeat obfuscation, I also have compiled extensive support documentation
which intelligent people can use to squash the illusionary facade of piecemeal
retrofitting of fundamentally ecologically-hostile modern lifestyles.

The problems are too big to be solved by village retrofitting of eco-san
toilets when the village will be subsequently buried by sandstorms of
country-sized magnitude.

Abrupt paradigm changes of global dimension is called for.

Because this is an "eco"-city science conference, with intended impacts on
biology, I shall be copying my communications to usenet news group
"Sci.Bio.Ecology". If there are any difficulties in locally receiving
postings, you may visit the archives at
<http://groups.google.com/groups?q=ecocity+%22ecosy.us%22&num=100&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&newwindow=1&scoring=d&sa=n&oq=ecocity+%22ecosyn.us%22>
 or

 or
<http://www.google.com/search?num=100&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&newwindow=1&q=ecosyn+%22ecological+synergy%22>
to view archived copies of postings.

Messages are often databased on http://www.google.com search engine even before
list members receive them in their email box. Messages published publically
will often use various alternate email addresses to divert away unsolicited
advertising volume.

http://ecosyn.us is the host site name.

The pages are very graphics-intensive, to reduce ambiguity for a poly-lingual
readership. Therefore, please SAVE a copy of each page on your local computer
so that you do not have to download the same bulk data again later. Users of
slow modems (56K or less) might visit pages with graphics-view turned off,
until they have decided whether they want to revisit the information and SAVE
it with pictorial documentation support intact.

More pages will soon be published, about one every other day or so.

This proposal is not applicable in every location, but does have widescale
deployment potential in many areas. It deserves fair consideration.

########################################
THE PROPOSAL:

*** Urban design supporting human population growth to 10,000,000,000 peak
coming shortly.

*** Compaction of "human footprint"

*** Integrated sewerage treatment and water purification, local, decentralized

*** Solar energy capture

*** Local, Decentralized, Food Security

*** Severe Climate Change Defense Measures

BELOW are summarized data derived from proposal website pages, using China as a
hypothetical model. See webpages listed at bottom for

==========================
China: hypothetical case study
==========================
(basic facts reminders)
43,560 sq ft per acre (Ac)
2.47 acres per hectare (Ha)
107,593 sq ft per Ha
10000 sq meters (M) per Ha
100 Ha per sq Kilometer (Km)
2.59 sq Km per sq mile

==========================
RESIDENTIAL STRUCTURES: PALACES for the People
53.7966 units @ 185.8 sq M/unit/Ha
53.7966 units @ 2000 sq ft/unit/Ha
185.8 sq M/unit
185.8 sq M = 83.6 sq M common + 102 sq M private space

==========================
5 strata model, 1 strata commercial, 4 strata residential use
2.2 Ha enclosed
318 persons @ 6 per unit/per Ha

==========================
6 strata model, 1 strata commercial, 5 strata residential use
3.2 Ha enclosed
1 Ha commercial
2.2 Ha per 5-level residential palace
702 residents per palace

==========================
landuse:
1.8778 Ha/palace plus sidewalks & streets
56.5323 Ha sites per sq Km (incl. streets)

==========================
exterior space 0.96 Ha (103 x 10e3 sq ft) outdoor patio / 700 residents = 13.7
sq M (147.5 sq ft) per person
13.7 sq M/person = 83.8 sq M (900 sq ft) per unit outdoor patio space

==========================
3.2 Ha (3.44 x 10e3 sq ft) enclosed floor space
1.0 Ha (1.07 x 10e3 sq ft) enclosed street-level commercial-use space

2.2 Ha (22 x 10e3 sq meters ) enclosed upper residential area
22 x 10e3 sq meters (236.8x 10e3 sq ft) / 117 residential units (apartments or
condos) = 188 sq M (2026 sq ft) per family
188 sq M (2026 sq ft) / (Family size = 6) = 31.3 sq M per person gross total

83.3 sq M (900 sq ft) enclosed public space (corridors, bldg infrastructure,
etc.) per family unit
104.6 sq M family private unit space allotment
private interior space = 23.4 sq M (251 sq ft) gross allotment per resident

==========================
100 Ha per sq Kilometer (Km)
56.5323 Ha palaces (+ streets) per sq Km (258.4 per sq mile)
-20 percent set-aside ((-10 percent heavy industrial) + (-10 percent parks &
public amenities)) = 45.23 palaces per sq KM (206 per sq mile)

==========================
31751 residents per sq Km (144,612 per sq miles) maximum
37,795 sq Km (194.5 sq miles) to house China population = 195 kilometers (75
miles) times 195 kilometers (75 miles)
1.709e6 palaces = 1,709,401

==========================
FOOD SECURITY:
requires 12,000,000 Ha (46,333 sq miles) croplands
12M Ha = 240,000 sq Km
240,000 sq Km = 490 Km (215.3 sq miles) x 490 Km (215.3 sq miles)

==========================
TOTAL RESIDENTIAL SPACE + TOTAL CROPLANDS:
(37,795 + 240,000) sq Km = 277,795 square kilometers
527 Km x 527 Km, or 327.5 miles x 327 miles

==========================
POWER GENERATION:
600 + 480 + 360 + 240 + 120 = 1,800 sq M per palace
1,800 sq M solar collectors = 1.8 megawatt power

Estimated 5 hours daily average peak power collection
1.8 MW x 5 MW-hours per day = 9 MWh/24 hour day
9 MWh/24 hour day / 24 hours = 375 KWh per hour per day averaged annually

1.2e9 (population) / 700 residents per palace = 1.715e6 palaces
9e6 watt-hours x 1.709e6 palaces = 1.384e20 watt-hours national daily average

138,429,000,000,000,000,000 watt hours = 4.983e11 gigajoules daily
(Requires manufacture of 3.077e9 square meters of photovoltaic panels. Better
get started!)
