Thanks for the information on the script command.

When I press enter after typing in something to be translated I get the 
line translate: then gibberish. Further tests show that stdout is messed 
up for lowercase leters and characters. I'm trying to track this down. 
It doesn't happen with any other table, and I don't see anything that 
could cause it in letterDefTest.ctb .
