Hi John,

Indeed in principle it should be possible to build liblouisutdml following the instructions in the doc file. What I don't like personally is that using the command line involves a lot of manual actions like selecting the proper map and preparing the environment in case of Microsoft Visual Studio for Windows.

Secondly persons who use this, including myself, are generally not familiar with all the operating systems and the implications of the flags used for each system.

So parts in the system remain untouched or are set inadvertly to an incompatible value so it is not usable anymore with other operating systems or other compilers. I think we need more cooperation of the specialists in each field.

When I wrote the Microsoft compilation stuff for liblouisutdml quite
some years ago I wrote a program which examined the autotools files and
created an nmake file. This was then used to compile liblouisutdml. The
same approach could have been taken with liblouis. I never did compile
the liblouis tools or file2brl, mostly because of gnulib.

It would be great if Davy or Arend could make their work generally
available. What we really need is a self-extracting .exe setup file.
