another thing I've noticed; is when I braille out the number sign by
using dots 3, 4, 5, 6, I cannot get the braille to recognise thwe
number sign; how can I resolve this please;

First, to me the only reasonable response to invalid braille is to indicate
that it is invalid. Unfortunately, absent an extremely sophisticated
backtranslation algorithm it isn't always possible to determine when a
braille item is invalid. In any case, it doesn't seem reasonable to me for
a backtranslator to provide fallback backtranslations for certain invalid
items.
Second, the dots 3456 "number sign" by itself is NOT the UEB Numeric
Indicator. The UEB Numeric Indicator is one of twelve two-cell symbols
consisting of dots 3456 followed by one of the ten letters representing the
decimal digits, by a comma, or by a period. So liblouis should not be
recognizing dots 3456 followed by a letter other than a lower case a-j as a
number sign or as anything else.
