Michel,

Using the same dot pattern in character-definition rules and repeated
rules is probably a good idea. However, if you don't want tabs to appear
in the output you can use the dot pattern 0 in both cases. Just be sure
that space is the first character defined with dot pattern 0.

You can define the escape character as follows:
space \x001b 1b
