The original Raspberry PI has its own distro, as it uses the older ARMv6 variants which is not supported by mainline linux distributions. There you may need to compile liblouis yourself. If you are getting the Raspberry PI now, definately get the latest v2 model. The price is the same $35, but the memory is doubled, CPU power more than doubled.
