I don't know about the R3 winder, but on the R4 winder it's not a problem and 
may be used to get the 37th and 38th frame from a roll of film.

My experience is again with the R4 winder, not the R3, so some experimenting 
might be nessesary.  The R4 winder's battery powers the camera's meter and 
shutter when the winder is attached so removing the battery might leave you 
with 1/90 sec and B and no meter.
